Habitat:

Eastern US. This one suns itself on our pool deck and eats the lizards that get trapped inside. Today I was alerted by the dog that it was visiting.

I once cornered one of these when I worked at a summer camp, thinking I'd pick it up like a garden snake to show off to the kids... it raised up about half its body length, using the building behind it as support and opened its mouth, exposing all of its tiny teeth. I did not call its bluff. Non-poisonous, but not something I wanted to get bitten by, especially in the face.
