Mangrove Pitta

Pitta megarhyncha

My very first trip to a preserved mangrove park located in Singapore, also my very first time spotting the Mangrove Pitta which is quite a sight in urbanized Singapore.

Its natural habitat is specialised and restriction to subtropical or tropical mangrove forests and Nipa palm stands. Its diet consists of crustaceans, mollusks and terrestrial insects.

Its on my list for my next visit, which isn't planned yet! I have seen the similar Indian Pitta in India and Sri Lanka and I've also seen some in Bird Parks, but that's not the same as a chance encounter in the wild.

Thanks Janelle and Malcolm.
@Malcolm Wilton-Jones: Do check out Pasir ris park, the mangrove area if your in Singapore. It is usually there.
