Florida Redbelly Turtle

Pseudemys nelsoni

Description:

I found this turtle trying to cross highway 17, near where I live on the Ogeechee River outside of Savannah, GA. I picked him up, took photos, and walked back to the marsh to release him. I believe it to be a Florida Redbelly Turtle (Pseudemys nelsoni). I found him a little north of his normal range.

Habitat:

Basking turtle, can be found in streams, ponds, lakes, ditches, mangroves, and marshes.

Notes:

Info found on SREL's website (www.srelherp.uga.edu/turtles/psenel.htm).
