I had originally thought this was Camacinia gigantea (sultan dragonfly) but now I am not so sure because the basic wing shape looks different than images I've been able to find (whereas the pattern of red and clear and position of pterostigma looks similar). [Camacinia gigantea is widely distributed from India to Viet Nam and southwards to New Guinea. http://www.iucnredlist.org/apps/redlist/... ]
Spotted on mother-in-law's tongue (Sansevieria trifasciata) in a large semi-urban yard & garden near a disturbed patch of remnant forest. It is not a particularly wet area.
This species is rare at my place. I don't remember seeing it since this spotting: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/693...

Gorgeous series!!
Thanks Patty (no such word but I agree...diffuses)!
Thanks Gerardo
Wow!
wonderful...the wings are either undescriptable or quite hypnotizing; the sight kind of looks into a colour and sees a shape and then goes for the whole wing including the clear part and the effect the efumated colors in the wings produce is simply wonderful =) (I don´t know if the word "efumated" exists...kind of spanglish there cause we call it "esfumado" when a color gradually diminishes instead of ending in a well defined line).
Thank you!
Wow what a beauty.
Thanks!
Gorgeous!
