Three-fingered Sloth (Brown-throated Sloth)

Bradypus variegatus

Description:

These juveniles sloths are supposed to be orphaned, and nursed in a kind of sanctuary. Sloth have about 42 to 80 cm in total body length. The tail is relatively short, only 2.5 to 9 cm long. Adults weigh from 2.25 to 6.3 kg, with no significant size difference between males and females. Each foot has three fingers, ending in long, curved claws, which are 7 to 8 cm long on the fore feet, 5 to 5.5 cm. They are mostly diurnal but they sleep 15 to 18 hours every day. they are arborial mammals and they visites the grounds only about ones a week to defecated or when they need to move to a different tree and the trees have no conections between branches are they can not jump, they are well adapted to be hunging for long periods of time, when in the ground they can not walk like most mammals do, they have to pull themself, the first time I saw the move, I thought that their bones were broken but not. so that means they are very vulnerables when in the soil, where they can be prey by jaguars are any other medium size can from the rainforest. in trees the can be attack by Crested or Harppy Eagles. They are mostly herbivorous .
