Butterflyweed

Description:

Large bright orange flower cluster with small, individual flowers, each with downward-curved petals. Leaf is hairy, toothless, long and widen at tip.

Habitat:

Spotted at Tamarac NWR near the Visitor Center. It grows in dry, sunny areas, fields and along roadsides.

Notes:

Milkweed family. This plant does not have a milky juice like other milkweeds. It is a host plant for Monarch butterfly caterpillars.
