White-tailed Deer

Description:

Family: Cervidae. Subfamily: Capreolinae. Also called the Virginia Deer or just Whitetail. Medium sized deer. Family of mother and twin fawns. Coloring: Reddish/brown in summer. Babies have white spots. Female adult (doe) has a large range of weight from 88-200 pounds (40-90 kg). Food: Legumes and other plants including shoots, leaves and grasses. They also eat acorns, corn and fruit. Feeding from natural pond.

Habitat:

Woodlands. Drinking from natural pond on the property I live.

Notes:

Fawns are usually born in May or June and lose their spots by fall and by winter weigh around 44-77 pounds (20-35 kg). They wean after 8-10 weeks. Males stay with the mothers for 1 year and females for 2 years.
