Painted Jezebel

Delias hyparete luzonensis

Pieridae; Pierinae; Delias hyparete luzonensis C. & R. Felder 1862. I am not skilled in describing butterflies. So I always hope that the photos give sufficient information. But Philepidoptera always give useful information: "(The Pierinae is a) group of butterflies in the family Pieridae (order Lepidoptera) that are named for their white wings with black marginal markings. The adult butterflies have a wingspan of 37 to 63 mm (1.5 to 2.5 inches). Sexual seasonal dimorphism in pattern and colour occur in many species."

This Painted Jezebel was spotted in our front yard visiting Periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus) in a flowerpot. He seemed to enjoy it so much, the heavy rain shower did not distract him.
