Chaffinch

Fringilla coelebs

Description:

Common european finch size of sparrow. Both sexes sport an easily recognized double white wing bare. Male with rusty red chest, belly and sides of face; with blue grey crown and nape; and reddish-brown mantle - same colors in winter (as spotted here), just a bit duller. Female and juvenile buffish-red chest and belly; rest of colors somewhat like a house sparrow.

Habitat:

Very common in woodland areas and agricultural areas. Here seen in urban setting (but very calm small town and close to a big wooded + meadow park), and all together close to slopes of Jura and coasts of lake Leman (Geneva).

Notes:

Here seen from my window, on our feeders...
