Description:

Large jungle butterfly commonly found in areas of disturbance, though they incredibly difficult to photograph. These butterflies feed on rotting fruit, dung, and tree sap instead of flowers.

Habitat:

This specimen was found in an abandoned cocoa farm on the mainland in the Bocas del Toro archipelago.

Notes:

These butterflies are one of the most iconic butterflies in the world as they are a frequent species at butterfly display gardens.
