Mitra stictica

Description:

This sea snail was named, presumably, after the pope's ceremonial head-dress. Its adult size varies between 3 and 9cm.

Habitat:

Found in the Indo-Pacific region.

Notes:

Spotted this shell at a depth of less than 8m. It measured about 8cm long. In the 2nd photo, you can make out -- just barely -- part of the animal's white-colored mantle.
