double crested cormorant & nest

Phalacrocorax auritus

Description:

common cormorant with yellow face, found nesting in Egret rookery

Habitat:

in alder trees next to river, rural, but only 5 minutes from city

Notes:

I am guessing there is a reason they are tolerated in the rookery, even though they appear to steal egret nests and make loud gutteral calls that bring attention to the colony
