The Morel fruits under hardwoods during a short period in the spring, depending on the weather, but it is also associated with old orchards, woods, disturbed grounds and burnt areas.
Throughout the World. Sometimes found solitary, but more often in groups, on the ground in a variety of habitats. Early spring in the U.S., in forests, orchards, yards, gardens and sometimes in recently burned areas.
Observed growing under an invasive Buckthorn tree that was being removed.
