Golden-crowned Sparrow

Zonotrichia atricapilla

Description:

Appears to be a warbler or sparrow of some sort. Mostly grey on top and very elusive. However, the song is unmistakable and is a three note song (similar to the mocking jay in The Hunger Games) descending in pitch at an amazing volume for such a small bird.

Habitat:

Wooded edges near grass flats.

Notes:

I've been trying to photograph this little bird for a week now and have heard them everywhere I've been in Alaska. I would love help identifying this little guy, but this is the only picture I've been able to manage so far. I finally figured this one out and have a much better spotting at: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/843...
