These golden threads are a parasitic plant that is devoid of chlorophyll and hence is not green. It has haustoria - like short stubby 'roots' that penetrate the flesh of the host plant and this is how the parasite acquires the nutrients it needs. The small yellow balls are the fruits of the parasite
