Description:

large graceful bee-eater predominantly red and pink but with a turquoise crown and blue rump. A bold bird usually hawking in loose groups.

Habitat:

a common summer visitor to north and east Botswana. Breeds colonially on steep riverbanks where each pair inhabits an excavated tunnel

Notes:

this individual was hawking along a freshly cut lucerne crop close to the Limpopo River
