Black-bordered Rat Snake/Green Rat Snake

Ptyas nigromarginata

Description:

Lovely reptile. Almost six feet long. Oval head; yellow. Body is a beautiful pale green. The tail is blue with black marks.

Habitat:

Neora Valley Jungle camp. Right outside the cottage where I stayed. It was a cloudy day and after lunch I went spotting...was returning when I saw this green " rope" just ahead...I would have had to cross it to reach my door. You can seee the stairs in the first snap. Without hurry the snake raised its head and seemed to check how high the wall was...it cleared it smoothly, climbing the containers that had once housed orchids...Over the wall it simply disappeared in the grass and underbush...I was so fascinated that I forgot to snap a closeup of the tail...yellow head, green body, blue with black marks on the tail...please can someone tell me its name? Neora Valley is a bio-rich zone. Hilly, forested and remote.

Notes:

The head does not look very viperish but Green Pit viper was the local consensus. This is interesting because THIS colubrid snake is non venomous. http://www.toxicologycentre.com/English/...
