Jovial Jumping Spider

Apricia jovialis

Description:

Black jumping spider with white boxing gloves and yellow 'G' string. 8mm

Notes:

This little spider made me laugh at least twice. First when he was scurrying about it could obviously see me and made things hard. Then I noticed it had this yellow 'G' string on and a pair of white boxing gloves that were working absolutely non-stop. I thought 'this one is some kind of joker !' ... then I found out his species name is jovialis. Apparently 'Breda' is a native to Brazil and therefore some suspect the Australian version to be a different species. This hasn't been proven yet so I have a theory that asergio sent these over just to confuse us.
UPDATE: name changed http://www.arachne.org.au/01_cms/details...
UPDATE: name accepted now is Apricia jovialis

Thanks Leanne. I've become quite attracted to this little spider. Such beady little eyes and those white palps were going non-stop. Not sure why... maybe it was just shadow boxing.
