Jumping Spider

Description:

Jumping Spiders are usually cute and cuddly looking, but this one did the strangest thing (second picture), it suddenly raised up onto the tips of the feet, with the legs in an almost vertical position and with the abdomen extended up in the air. It hopped about like that for a couple of seconds and then returned to a normal position. Maybe some kind of aggression display? This one was brown and tan in color with a metallic bronze abdomen and thorax. About 8 mm in length. Family Salticidae.

Habitat:

On a blade of grass below a street light, semi-rural residential area, San Cristobal de Las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico 2,200 meters.
