Southeastern Five-lined Skink

Plestiodon inexpectatus

Description:

Beautiful skink with bright blue tail and golden head-middle. Dark body with light lines. Very quick and elusive. This was the only photo I was able to get, despite pursuing it through the log pile for an hour.

Habitat:

Suburban yard. Woods and creek are nearby. Likes to hang out under leaf litter in mulched flowerbed, under gutter drain, and in log pile.
