Northern Cardinal

Description:

Male cardinals are a brilliant scarlet red, females a buffy brown with reddish wings - both have a jet -black mask, pronounced crest, and heavy bill. The cardinal sings nearly year-round, and the male aggressively defends his 4-acre territory.The cardinal is the state bird of 7 states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia.

Habitat:

Oak tree forest near my parent's home.

Notes:

This male cardinal and his mate are often seen visiting the bird feeder at my parents home. Approx. 4" tall.

Thanks, It took me about 25 shots and 2 hours to get that one closeup. They move very fast when going to the bird feeder and always keep an eye out for the local cats.
