Cave Crevice Weaver

Description:

A small spider that lives in a small hole in bat guano. Silk is seen around the entrance of the hole. The spider is black in color with some brown colors on the legs, several tiny spots on it's abdomen. The spider is about 6mm in length. Update: This is a Pritha species, a type of spider that have eyes clustered tightly together in the middle of the carapace. They create holes in soil or earth and filled it with silk until the entrance.

Habitat:

In it's underground tunnel / funnel web in Madai Cave, Kunak, Sabah.

Notes:

There are several of these "funnels" on the pile of guano just inside the cave entrance. I picked one and opened up the hole to reveal the spider within. I know it is cruel but the spider can easily build back another hole. Close species here http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/746...
