The Limpkin is about 28 inches tall. It is brown with white spots and streaks. This year is the first time I have heard its cry (and realized which bird it was coming from). What a haunting sound!
Swamps and marshes. Spotted near a lake at a local park.
The Limpkin is protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act in the USA.
