Ammophila sp.
Nature reserve
Indeed A. heydeni/iberica looks a good match for all legs and thorax... but how many more? At this stage I think you're right to safely leave it at Ammophila sp. :-)
Thanks Daniele, my book refers to these as Sand Digger Wasps amongst other names, and this looks very similar to Ammophila heydeni, number 289 on this page http://www.infojardin.com/foro/showthrea... although the only distribution map I have found so far does not include Iberia, but another page http://eol.org/pages/2738815/names/synon... shows Ammophila iberica is a synonym of A. heydeni, althoug the EPL map only shows one recordfrom NE Spain.
Hi Malcolm! I'm pretty sure of the genus but it is comprised of many similar species. The colour of the legs and the abdomen should be a clue. I hope someone else can help further!
