Great Thrush

Turdus fuscater quindio

Description:

This bird is the largest Thrush in South America and one of the three largest Thrushes in the world. It measures 30 cm (1 ft) in length and stands erect, giving it an even larger appearance. It is uniformly dark slate gray to black except for its orange beak and yellow legs.

Habitat:

This example was spotted in a park in the Andean city of Quito (2,850 masl).

Notes:

This is the only subspecies of T fuscater that is found in the North of Ecuador making the identification of the subspecies easy.
