Description:

Amphibious reptile with oval, flattened shell. Young animals sometimes have shells marked with red or yellow patches. Older animals often have scarred shells, caked in silt in sun-bathing individuals. Neck marked with conspicuous stripes.

Habitat:

Favours ponds, streams and ditches. Found Iberia, Greece and Turkey.
