Paronychia argentea

Description:

Paronychia argentea, known in spanish as sanguinaria or nevadilla, is a herbal plant of the family of cariofiláceas; It grows in sandy areas, paths, uncultivated fields , etc. Annual plant that reaches 30 cm high. The stem is glabrous with opposed, eliptic leaves. The flowers appear in lateral and terminal glomerules. The fruit is an achene.

Habitat:

It grows in all the Mediterranean aerea. It lives in dry and uncultivated fields, dunes and road sides. It flowers from winter to summer. Spotted at Parque Nacional de Monfragüe.

Notes:

It was used, bolied, as diuretic and blood purifier (sanguinaria, from blood in spanish, sangre) and as a poultice to heal wounds. Camera Model: NIKON D300. Exposure Time: 1/60 sec. f/36 ISO Speed Rating: 200. Focal Length: 90.0 mm. Flash fired

Thanks Leuba,
the leaves are not succulent but they are prepared for our dry climate. They are a bit thick and hard but I would not say succulent

interesting little plant- reminds me of the "everlasting flowers" like the Helichrysm from the Compositae family. They can retain their structure and colour indefinitely and grow wild. I believe they are also used in herbal medicine. Interesting information as well, arlanda.
