unidentified mushrooms

Description:

Small (cap diameter 3 inches or less, and no more than 3 inches tall) mushrooms. The white caps had light brown accents; the stems and gills were white.

Habitat:

Mixed native and alien lowland mesic forest.

Notes:

Spotted growing in ironwood (Casuarina sp.) litter beside Palehua Trail descending the north side of Mauna Kapu on Oahu.

Thanks for the thought Vlad.

Sorry for the delay in responding: I just got home from a visit to my grandson. And his parents of course, but the little guy is of most interest.

I've found some Stropharia images online that are similar to this spotting--and a whole lot that are completely different.

I've checked my layman's reference for Hawaii mushrooms and found that it lists only two Stropharia sp., the images of neither of which look like this spotting.

No doubt you know a whole lot more about mycology than I, but using the only criterion I've got--visual--for me this one remains unidentified.
