This is not a Blue Heron...it is a Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.

Beautiful shot! I agree with Mary Evans, those orange eyes look more like a night heron's.

I do believe this is a yellow crowned night heron, as the beak is to short and thick to be a great blue. The facial markings and eyes are also a bit off for a great blue and appear to be that of the yellow crowned night heron. See what you think:
