Plocepasser mahali
White browed sparrow weavers build untidy nests of dry grass with a down facing tunnel entrance. The nests of a colony are all built in one tree, sometimes overflowing to a second, and all the nests are constructed among the outer branches of the tree or bush on its western side
This colony had built there homes in an young Acacia tortilis thorn tree in a bushveld region near the Limpopo river. It was close to a farm dwelling and goat pens
Weavers are thought to make their nest entrances downward facing to make it more difficult for snakes to enter

I'm not sure why the western side but its one of those snippets of information that can be handy if one gets lost or disorientated in the bush
Lovely nest!
Great set of images! Why the western side of the tree?
thanks Ava
What a lovely series! Nice that you got the birds in the last picture, too.
