Southern Desert Horned Lizard

Phrynosoma (Doliosaurus) platyrhinos calidiarum

Description:

Approximately 5-6 inches long

Habitat:

Seen along the Pine City trail in the Mojave desert portion of Joshua Tree National Park at ~4450 ft elevation. The area is sandy/gravelly/rocky with Joshua Trees, other yuccas, cacti and other desert plants.

Notes:

Based on location and some of the physical characteristics, I suspect this is the Southern Horned Lizard ... Phrynosoma (Doliosaurus) platyrhinos calidiarum ... but would welcome verification.
