American Kestrel

Falco sparverius

Description:

Five American Kestrel eggs. The eggs are light brown to almost white mottled with darker brown . Each egg is about an inch or so in length.

Habitat:

Mostly rural area just outside the city. Lots of farmland and open fields.

Notes:

These eggs were in the nest at least as early as April 21. The nest is in the eaves of an open shed between two rafters. It is approximately 12 feet off of the ground. The female has been sitting on the nest , but flies off whenever there is activity around the shed, which there usually is in the early morning and late afternoon. I have not seen a male around in at least a week.
