Squirrel Tree (Ardilla)

Cojoba arborea

Description:

scaly type bark (similar to the quebracho, aka. axe-breaker), compound small leaves, produces a reddish inedible fruit. In Nicaragua, it is called the Ardillo Tree, the Squirrel Tree.

Habitat:

Dry Tropical Forest, pacific lowlands

Notes:

Finding confirmation on the scientific name eludes me. I saw this tree in Ostional, Tortuga, and they get BIG. In Tortuga, I couldn't get a focus image of the red flower/fruit up high in the tree. I took this picture at the military post in El Ostional.
