Ichneumonidae (family)

Description:

About 11-12 mm in body length (excluding ovipositor). Female specimen, colored as shown.

Habitat:

Urban/suburban setting in otherwise shortgrass prairie habitat.

Notes:

Found on sidewalk during my neighborhood walk. Brought home for photo op and then released in backyard. Females of many ichneumon wasp species hibernate as adults over the winter.
