A shrub/ tree that has strong roots and can stay standing in extreme situations. ʻŌhiʻa trees grow easily on lava.

Habitat:

Found in a wide variety of habitats (species on lava, shrublands, mesic and wet forests). Grow between 0–2200 m above sea level on most main Hawaiian islands

Notes:

Hawaiian Name: Ohia Lehua Can be used to make canoes, lei and can be eaten It is endemic to Hawaii.
