White Tailed Deer

Description:

This deer is tan or reddish-brown in the summer and grayish-brown in the winter, with certain areas remaining white all year round. Fawns are spotted with brown tails and a white underside. When sensing danger, the deer raises its tail – this is called ‘flagging.’ Showing this large white patch on the underside of the tail signals an alarm to other deer and helps a fawn follow its mother to safety.

Habitat:

On Cape Forchu, Nova Scotia, an Istmus near the Bay of Fungi. There are trees and some forest, lots of grass and fields with wild flowers. Near the ocean.

Notes:

These two deer (this doe and her "friend/ brother" the buck - I will post later) came to graze every day onto the lawn of our rental accommodation. Lovely! They seemed very attached to each other. This is the doe. I will post the buck later.
