Black-tipped Archduke

Lexias dirtea ssp. merguia

Description:

adult male - this species looks and behaves exactly like the Common archduke (Lexias pardalis) and is impossible to tell them apart when in flight. the most obvious difference between these two species is the colouration of the antennae where on L.d.merguia the apical topside of the antennae is either black or brown... while L.pardalis have well-defined orange on the apical part of the club on the upperside. in both species the underside of the club is orange.! see Lexias pardalis here: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/81...
