Laughing Hawk

Herpetotheres cachinnans

Description:

This falcon feeds entirely on snakes (Ophiophagy) catching many in the early mornings before they hide.

Habitat:

Perches high in trees watching for snakes, its food, in the Amazon rainforest of SE Ecuador.

Notes:

I love listening to them calling, usually early mornings, but can be heard all day long. My interest is more in herpetology, but these hawks, being snake-eaters, almost quality.
