Pixie's Parasol

Mycena interrupta

Description:

Tiny agaric fungi with beautiful moist blue caps about 4mm wide. The caps had deep blue centres; the colour faded towards the margin. The little mushrooms had white spaced gills and delicate white stipes with a small amount of hypae at the base.

Habitat:

decaying log - damp tall eucalyptus forest. It had been raining for about a week prior to this spotting.

Notes:

I spotted what looked like lovely flecks of glistening paua shells in a small cluster on a hidden decaying log in a damp eucalyptus forest. I was so excited by this find especially later when I read that they were the only blue agaric mushrooms in this part of the world (?). It's pity I didn't have the equipment to take better macros !
