Hairy Field Spider

Description:

An orange Neoscona spider resting on a leaf. About 8mm in length. It's legs are armed with spikes just like other Neoscona spiders. Neoscona spiders take refuge from the sunlight during the day. They will only build their orb-webs in the evening and remove their webs when morning arrives.

Habitat:

Inside curled leaves or other suitable dark shelters during the day in Kinabalu Park, Kundasang, Sabah, Malaysia.

Notes:

Hairy Field Spiders amazes me because it is not easy to spot them in the day time but they can be spotted easily in large numbers at night. To spot them in forests at night, try using a torchlight to shine over gaps between bushes and branches. Be careful not to bump into a large Neoscona's web, some larger species can create huge webs as high as 2m from tree branches to the ground. >>>Map accuracy : 1km diameter.
