Ladybird in Gumnut

Cleobora mellyi

Description:

A freshly ecloded Southern Ladybird beetle in a eucalyptus seed capsule (gumnut). the pupal case can be seen still attached to the inside of the gumnut. The eucalyptus tree was a West Australian flowering gum.

Habitat:

Spotted in a nature reserve

Notes:

These gumnuts are large and house different types of creatures. They form great little shelters !. I often see spiders but this is the first spotting of a ladybird. The Southern Ladybird preys on Chrysomelid leaf beetle larvae and psyllids. My previous spotting of this beetle http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/154... Family: Coccinellidae
