Maypop Bloom

Passiflora incarnata

Description:

A fast growing perennial vine with climbing or trailing stems. A member of the passionflower genus Passiflora, the maypop has large, intricate flowers with prominent styles and stamens. One of the hardiest species of passionflower, it is a common wildflower in the southern United States.

Habitat:

Roaming about the garden. The garden is about half an acre of native plants specifically planted for wildlife. The main water source is a pond that is filtered by two gravel streams. It is on a peninsula by Lake Lewisville Lake TX.

Notes:

This is the only bloom not eaten by the Gulf and Variegated Fritillary caterpillars.
