Peaceful Dove

Geopelia striata

Description:

A small blue-grey dove. This is one of a pair - they are very shy and generally fly off if we get too close or make any sudden moves!

Habitat:

Our backyard. These birds prefer open dry woodland near a water source.

Notes:

This bird and its partner have been visiting our yard for about a fortnight. They forage on the ground, but I think they might be roosting in a tree not too far away as I often hear them calling.

They looked fatter last week, Mark! I'm sure it's the same pair. http://on.fb.me/1vEdtyq

Yours are so skinny. Maybe it's the heat. Or are you not feeding them properly. :)
