Toothpick grasshopper

Achurus

Description:

Appears to be some sort of grasshopper. Very odd little beast. Maybe 2" or 2.5" long.

Habitat:

My front yard, formerly Florida Longleaf Pine/Turkey Oak Sandhill habitat.

Notes:

I would have assigned this to a mission, but it appears that the scrolling bar is not working today. :( . I'll come back later.

Such a cool grasshopper! My best guess would be a Long-headed Toothpick Grasshopper, Achurum carinatum. Description and images on BugGuide seem to match. It is found year round in Florida. http://bugguide.net/node/view/4400

It looks like a STICK-MANTAS. It is very common in the Desert Southwest
