orb weaver???

family Araneidae

Description:

huge -about the size of a half dollar -large heart shaped abdomen with bright green and desert camo coloring -striped hind legs

Habitat:

orb weavers can be found all over the world

Notes:

I found this beautiful specimen on a porch in Maine. It was tucked into that corner, and I didn't want to disturb it. As far as spiders go this one I would consider very large. Bigger than more common orb weavers that I have seen. I have had a very tough time trying to identify it. I tried for a few hours last summer when i took this picture, and again today. I did find a picture of this spider, but it was attached to a poem about spiders, and didn't say anything about the species.
