Greater Canada Goose

Branta canadensis

Description:

At the building I work at there is a large pond. Every year we have geese coming back to nest. We watch the chicks grow every spring. The geese are a pain because they aren't shy and they poop everywhere, but they are cute. There are even muskrat in the pond and a fox in the area. This is in a city, though nearer the outskirts, but still!

Habitat:

Lakeshores, riverbanks, ponds, farm lands and city parks. Or in this case, work parking lot.

Notes:

Quite common in Winnipeg pretty much everywhere but downtown.
