Smooth Earth Snake

Virginia valeriae

Description:

We found this skin when we were moving a raised vegetable bed. Luckily, we spotted the snake a few minutes later. Unluckily, we weren't able to get a picture of the snake itself. It was about 10 inches long, with stormy gray, smooth scales.

Habitat:

It lived in the landscape timbers of the bed here in our long leaf pine and wire-grass forest. I really hope it found a nice new home.
