Lined Butterflyfish - kikakapu

Chaetodon lineolatus

Description:

large uncommon butterflyfish which may reach its largest size in Hawaii - 12 inches long. Brilliant yellow contrasting to black and white make this a beautiful species to see on the reef.

Habitat:

Indo-Pacific and I found this one at my favourite snorkelling spot in Hawaii - 2-step. But don't all go there or it will not be my fave anymore:):) Usually found to 20 feet deep, this pair was at about 8 feet deep. They are usually found in pairs or alone unless in a mating group.

Notes:

This was a lifer for me and I watched this pair for quite a while. They are not easy to approach and I was thrilled that they did not seem to mind me "hanging around" in the water near them.
