Red-eared Slider

Trachemys scripta elegans

Description:

Red on legs no yellow. red stripe when head is extended is narrow and Yellow stripe is thick. Red-eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) is what most people are voting. I do not know how to change the unknown to a known

Habitat:

water and the water edge but this guy was heading away from the nearby slough to a five year growth old field

Notes:

Last photo was first one taken with a cell phone. At least with the cell phone shot you can see the yellow blotch is more noticeable.

I would say based on its carapace it looks like a Red Eared Slider. There are yellow markings on the scutes and the nuchal scute seems much smaller in comparison to the other marginal scutes and these things do not occur in painted turtles.

JansonJones No noticeable yellow marbling and the red stripe was skinny with a little flair, almost like a racing stripe the yellow flagged out and got thicker.
