Ardeola grayii
Also called Paddybird, these herons appear short and stocky, but in reality they sport long necks. The non breeding plumage showed here, is mainly buff in colour above, with whitish bellies and striped necks. Here observed in rural setting, but very close to habitations of the small border village. These birds were observed in paddy fields, as they were flooded for shrimp cultivation and shrimps inoculated - now you know what are these redoutable hunters hunting for here....
